“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16
CHOIR PRACTICE RESUMES…
As you can imagine, putting together a virtual choir is a complicated process! The following instructions are here to guide you through the process of recording and submitting your virtual performance in a way that will produce the best overall results. Please, contact Pastor Jon (email@example.com) if you have any questions about these instructions.
I. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Please make sure you have access to the following equipment for capturing your virtual performance:
* MP3 Player/Tablet/Smartphone/Computer
You need a device capable of playing MP3 audio files so you can sing along with the accompaniment track.
Headphones are REQUIRED during recording – we want to record your voice only, NOT your voice and the accompaniment track.
* Audio Recording Device
Use any device capable of recording audio into a digital format.
Consider dedicated smartphone, tablet or laptop. The playback of your recording and the accompaniment must be on two separate devices.
* Music Stand (or Alternative)
Memorization is the best option for an engaging performance.
Make sure you have something to put your sheet music, or tablet, on. Consider creative alternatives to music stands – whatever works!
1. Choose your vocal part.
2. Download the song .pdf file and rehearsal mp3 file for practice from the “attachments” section on Planning Center Online. You may wish to print this out.
Bless The Lord (All That Is Within Me)
Rehearsal Tracks – choose your voice part: Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass
3. Download MP3 recording to your computer, or directly to your device.
Tutorial guides and videos are available (through Google search) to help you transfer MP3 files to your playback device, if need be.
4. Practice Tips
Practice singing while listening to the Guide track.
Practice singing with one, or both, headphones in – experiment to get your best performance. Remember, the performance “guide” track will be in your right ear, and will include all solos and Worship Leader vocals. Your specific vocal part “guide” will be in your left ear.
1. Set up your recording space.
Find a QUIET space with minimal ambient noise and echoes.
Silence/remove intermittent noise sources (air conditioning, phones, fans, desktop computers, pets, etc.).
Ensure bright lighting (e.g. natural, ceiling/floor lamps, desk lamps).
Place your sheet music so you are comfortable looking at it while recording.
2. Set up your audio recording device.
Set up your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to record.
Test adjustable audio settings – make sure you aren’t too loud or too quiet (use built-in level/peak meters and listen on headphones if possible).
3. Record your performance.
Put on your headphones. If using only one earbud, tuck the other into back of shirt so the audio is not picked up in your recording. Remember, we want to record YOUR voice, not the background.
Press ‘Record’ on your recording device.
Press ‘Play’ on your MP3 player/device
Sing your part. If you make a mistake, stop your recording and MP3 player. Start again at recording Step 2.
IV. REVIEWING AND SUBMITTING
1. Review your audio recording using headphones.
Listen for audible noises you may not have noticed during recording.
Listen for background hiss from the room, or your device.
Listen for sound level – too loud (distorting) or soft (hard to hear over background noise).
Adjust audio settings and re-record, if necessary.
Try a different device if you are unable to achieve good results.
2. Submit your audio file by e-mailing it to Pastor Jon (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Wednesday, June 3rd at NOON.
We will do our best to use every audio file we receive. If your audio suffers from technical problems that we cannot overcome on our end, we will respond to the e-mail address you used to submit your recording and request that you review our feedback and re-record, if you are able.
The worship ministry of FBC Apopka offers many ways for members to use their talents to glorify God.
Celebration Choir: Teens through adult are welcome to be a part of the Celebration Choir. An audition is not required – a basic understanding of music, a willingness to learn, and a desire to worship through music is needed. A full choir rehearsal is held weekly on Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. in the Choir Room. Choir members also meet Sunday mornings at 10:15 a.m. for a run-through of the service music.
Praise Team: Praise Team members are Celebration Choir members who have the training, musical ability, and commitment to lead vocally from the platform. Praise Team members are auditioned and interviewed by the Worship Pastor, and are scheduled to serve on a rotating basis.
Instrumentalists: The Worship ministry uses a variety of instruments to enhance the worship service. Those desiring to serve using their instrumental talents should contact the Worship Pastor.
Kids Praise: Our Kids Praise meets each Sunday morning during our Kids Shine ministry time. Kids Praise is for children in 1st through 5th grade and is led by our Worship Pastor. Kids Praise sings periodically in Sunday worship services, shares seasonal musicals with our congregation, and has other events and activities throughout the school year.
Hand Bell Choir: Our hand bell choir plays for special services and seasonal events. They usually rehearse on Sunday afternoons and are led by Jim Smith. If you’d like to be a part of the hand bell choir, contact our church office.
Audio/Visual Technical: An important part of the Worship ministry is the audio/visual and technical staff. These team members operate the sound system and the visual presentation throughout the worship services. Those interested in serving on this team should contact the Worship Pastor. Those with previous experience OR those willing to learn are welcome! We utilize three technical teams in our worship services: Sound, Lights, and Media. If you would be interested in assisting with these roles or learning these skills, please let us know. This is a great opportunity for those who prefer to serve “behind the scenes.” No previous knowledge of our equipment is required since training is provided.
The Worship Ministry also offers opportunities for children and teens to lead worship through music. Contact the Worship Pastor for more information.
Special seasonal programs incorporate music, drama, and media as we celebrate and worship our Lord Jesus Christ.
