Our Story

How it all started...

The First Baptist Church of Apopka was officially organized in 1860 with 21 charter members in a spot in Northwest Orange County, Florida that was simply called The Lodge. The Lodge would be a precursor to the city of Apopka, Florida. Mr. George K. Powell served as FBCA's first pastor. In February of 1909, FBCA moved to a new location in the business district of Apopka on the corner of Highland Avenue and Fourth Street. In 1936 FBCA officially filed articles of incorporation in the State of Florida as "The First Baptist Church of Apopka, Inc." In 1960 the current worship center was completed on the corner of Highland Avenue and Main Street (S.R. 441).

There have been numerous senior pastors throughout  FBCA's 163 years. Brother Allen Higginbotham was the longest tenured pastor of FBCA from 1981-1993. Our current senior pastor, David Schorejs has served as senior pastor of FBCA since Easter of 2014. Under Pastor David's leadership FBCA has seen a resurgence and growth not since the days of Pastor Allen Higginbotham.  Many people are coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, following in believer's baptism, and are being added to the Church. Under Pastor David's leadership the existing worship center has undergone renovations in 2023 and a new excitement and expectation of growth has overtaken the congregation of FBCA. FBCA has adopted the phrase, "We Love God, We Love You!" as we reach the community of Apopka with the love of Jesus Christ!
